The BC Rural
Women's Network....

Herstory

In 2002-2003, the BC Rural Women’s Project, funded by Status of Women Canada and the Canadian Rural Partnership, examined the ways that low-income and access to communication services affect women living in rural and remote communities in BC.

Over 100 women living in rural and remote communities in British Columbia participated in the project. Women participants shared their experiences and recommendations for change in a variety of ways including community
dialogues, phone conversations, mailed or faxed in questionnaires, and individual conversations.

To ensure information continued to be shared with women who participated in the dialogues, the BC Rural Women's Network was created. Since the spring of 2003 the BCRWN has continued to evolve and focus on bringing forward rural women's experiences to better inform public policy relevant to rural women's lives.
